About Us

Ghana Financial Itermediation Awards is and awards scheme meant to identify and publicly recognize the financial intermediation institutions that stand out from their peers across a wide range of aspects of their core activities – the taking of deposits and the giving of loans. This awards scheme is novel for the fact that it is the first time that industry leaders across the various genres of financial intermediation – commercial/universal banks, savings and loans companies, rural and community banks, micro-finance institutions and specialized finance houses – will be assessed as one holistic industry.

Ultimately the aim is to identify to best institutions to place savings and investments with, and the best institutions to secure loans and other forms of (non -securitized) credit finance from, thus serving as a guide for both depositors and borrowers.

Awards will be conferred across 50 different categories, through a comprehensive and credible selection process using a combination of quantitative and qualitative considerations, executed by our dedicated research consultants and our special awardees selection jury. The process involves nominations, due diligence and verification of the information contained therein, assessment, shortlisting and ultimately, deliberations by a special awardees selection jury comprising seven highly reputed financial intermediation experts and beneficiaries, with vast experience and skills in the industry as a whole.

Awards Rationale

The Ghana Financial Intermediation Awards are being organized in recognition of the structure of the industry which allows several different genres of institutions to effectively compete with each other for customers, offering the same core generic products/services, with differentiation restricted basically to differing regulatory frameworks and product/service pricing structures.

Up till now, public recognition of excellence in the financial intermediation industry has been done on a genre by genre basis. Thus banks have been assessed against banks, RCBs against RCBs, MFIs against MFIs and so on.

However the banking public can choose freely between institutions in all of the genres in deciding where to place their deposits and where to seek debt financing from. Thus there is the hitherto un-satiated need to publicly identify the most outstanding institutions across all the various genres, with respect to the various aspects of financial intermediation and this is precisely what the Ghana Financial Intermediation Awards sets out to do.
